Pizza box
On the last day of 'Immigration Week of Shame' we attempted to deliver pizza boxes representing Humanitarian and Compassionate Applications to Joe Volpe, who replaced Judy Sgro as Immigration Minister after a Mississauga man told the press that she had promised to give him status if he delivered pizza and wings to her campaign team.
The week of action was organized by No One Is Illegal-Toronto, Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees, Don't Ask Don't Tell Coalition, Filipino Workers Committee, OCAP, Toronto Action for Social Change and Justicia for Migrant Workers.
Together, the groups demanded:
Status for all
No more deportations
Stop racial profiling
Free the detainees
Open the borders
No more secret trials
Introduce an appeals process
Land all refugees on humanitarian and compassionate grounds
Repeal the misnamed Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act
Repeal the Safe Third Country Agreement
Recognition of indigenous sovereignty
Take my pizza
